April Recap, London Callings, and Official Fame

The Big Scene: Glasgow Takes London

We feel incredibly lucky to be sharing the stage with the legendary Groundhog, one of London’s FA veteran teams. It’s an absolute privilege to be on the same bill as them.

  • Who: SBT vs. Groundhog (The 2023 London Cagematch Champions). It’s Glasgow’s high-stakes comedy vs. London’s high-energy FA veterans.

  • When: Thursday, 14th May 2026 | 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM

  • Where: The Free Association, Arch 26, Old Union Yard, London.

  • The Vibe: High stakes, high pressure, and likely some very confused Londoners.

Website Revamp

We’ve taken spring cleaning to the digital realm and given our website a lil refresh! Have a look if you’d like to see what we’re all about, how we operate, and the core values that underpin the whole damn thing. Check out the latest here

The April Show Recap

Our April Sunday afternoon show was an absolute blast. Maggie and Pissman kicked things off in brilliant style. (They have since done a Cage Match and were clearly cheated out of a victory—we see you).

Squeaky Bum Time followed up before the interval with their signature blend of long-form improv craftsmanship mixed with utter silliness.

Games Night Improv: Salad Bowl Edition brought the chaos after the break. It was classic party games meet improvised comedy, with audience teams competing alongside our improvisers for the ultimate prize: clout. The fantastic Alison Johansson took this photo. Check her out here!

Breaking: Charlie and Ellen are Officially Famous

Link to Ellen’s Nepal Sketch Here!

As you can see from the above video, the "fame" is already going to their heads. Charlie and Ellen did a proper photoshoot recently, and I’m sure you all agree this means they are officially A-list now.

In fact, Ellen has struggled so much with her new celebrity status that she’s had to move to the Annapurna mountains to rediscover herself. While she’s "finding herself" in the Himalayas, Charlie managed to send over her favorite shot from the session to prove they’ve made it:

Will Hines: We Found the Fool

We just wrapped an immense weekend with UCB legend Will Hines for our Find the Fool intensive. Despite being 5,000 miles away in LA, the hybrid setup was so seamless it felt like he was right there in the room with us.

Will’s take on the format:
"The online class format works great. Clean, clear audio, easy to see everyone. It feels just like I'm in the room. Glasgow students are among the most talented in the world and I'm proud to work with them."

This is exactly why we utilise this setup, it gives us direct access to the best teachers on the planet without a pesky transatlantic flight interfering. We have more world-class learning opportunities in the works for the coming months and if you're reading this newsletter you're doing the right thing to be first to hear about it.

Why There Is No Show in May

You might notice we don't have our usual show planned for May. We are taking a brief pause on our home shows while we work on securing a new venue that aligns more closely with our learning and showcase model.

We love the team at Blackfriars and are so grateful for their support, but as we continue to grow, we want to find a space that properly bridges our workshops with our performances. Charlie, Tom, and Chris are moving fast on finding the right spot, and we'll keep you updated as things progress.

The Big Picture

Our classes and workshops are still very much in full swing, including the 10-week series with Shannon O'Neill. Building a dedicated community and theatre takes time, but we believe in SBT being something of real value. We think it’s already moving in that direction, and we're incredibly grateful for your ongoing support.

See you soon, Much love,

The SBT Team
